Tongue-in-cheek, he told reporters at the press conference, "I want to thank all my teammates who scored so many runs and my fleet-footed outfielders, who ran down so many of my mistakes. Without them, I would have never made it to the Hall of Fame."
Then speaking seriously about his accomplishments and induction to the Hall of Fame, "It's like a dream... and yet it's something I never dreamed would happen. It is truly an honor to have your name and your statue among all of the alltime greats."
He retired at age 38 and in his legendary career Blyleven accumulated a 244-226 lifetime record with 3310 strikeouts in 4359.2 innings.
