| Breaking News |  | Thursday, October 2nd, 2008: CAR's Premier Hitter, Hicks of Myrtle Beach
The 2008 Carolina League Outstanding Hitter Award has been picked and the honor went to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans hitting machine, Brandon Hicks. He compiled a .294 batting average with 139 hits, 36 doubles, 5 triples and 13 home runs, along with 71 RBIs and 82 runs scored.

 | Wednesday, October 1st, 2008: Fireman Cops 2008 CAR Outstanding Pitcher Award
When Myrtle Beach reliever Luis Valdez was called in from the bullpen during the season, it was lights out for the other team. He usually put a quick stop to any potential rallies. For his solid mound work he was presented the 2008 Carolina League Outstanding Pitcher Award today.
The Pelicans relief star converted 40 saves this year with a 8-5 record and a 2.98 ERA. He appeared in 56 games and struck out 48 in 63.1 innings.

The 2008 Round 1 is history, and Carolina League has added another champion to its record book.
Lynchburg prevailed over Myrtle Beach today with a 4-3 victory at Ballpark of Lynchburg. It was the Hillcats 1st time claiming the title.
They compiled a 76-64 regular season record and finished in the second spot in the Northern Division pennant chase.
